An incredible $100,000 donation from East Gippsland local Walter “Ted” Quick will support the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service cancer care services where Ted received treatment for cancer.

Ted, who spent many years living and working in Swifts Creek before moving to Paynesville, made a significant donation following the sale of his Swifts Creek home.

Ted has a longstanding connection to East Gippsland. He worked for many years in the timber industry in Swifts Creek, including driving a bulldozer in a local sawmill yard, and was supported by his sister Bonnie Laity during his cancer journey.

Having experienced cancer treatment himself, Ted wanted his gift to support the local service and team that cared for him during his treatment. He is now being monitored as part of his ongoing recovery.

For Ted, supporting the cancer care team was an opportunity to give back to the team and help ensure other people across East Gippsland can continue to access cancer care closer to home.

BRHS Chief Executive Officer Peter Abraham said the health service was incredibly grateful for Ted’s generosity.

“Ted’s donation is an extraordinary act of giving and one that will directly support the further development of local cancer specialist services as we continue to grow to meet the increasing demand for our services.” Mr Abraham said.

“Donations, such as Ted’s play an important role in helping us enhance the care we provide and  allow members of our community to make a very tangible difference to the care experience of all.”
