A group of local golfers have combined community spirit with a powerful purpose, raising funds to support cancer patients at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service.
Through their annual pink awareness golf day held earlier this month, the Bairnsdale Ladies Golf Committee and its members raised $1,108, which will go towards a pink cancer treatment chair in the BRHS Oncology Day Unit.
The initiative brought the community together in a show of support for those undergoing treatment, with golfers dressed in pink to raise both funds and awareness. Funds were raised through a mega raffle and donations.
At Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, almost 300 patients from across East Gippsland receive cancer care, support and life-saving treatment at the Oncology Day Centre each month.
Ladies Captain Julie Percival said the event has become a much-loved tradition among members, with close to 90 ladies taking part this year.
“This is the third year we have held our pink awareness day, and the first year we’ve proudly supported our health service,” she said.
“It’s a great way to raise awareness, and a day our members really look forward to each year.”
BRHS CEO Peter Abraham said donations like this make a meaningful difference to the local community, patients and their families.
“Every contribution helps us enhance comfort and care for people undergoing treatment close to home,” he said.
“The generosity shown through initiatives like the pink awareness day reflects the strength and compassion of our community and we thank the Bairnsdale Golf Club and the Ladies Golf Committee for their support”.
Funds raised will directly support the purchase of a specialised treatment chair, helping provide a best care experience for patients receiving care in the Oncology Day Unit.
