East Gippsland is the major geographic and economic region in eastern Victoria and has a growing population of 43,000 people who enjoy its stunning natural environment, mild climate and easy lifestyle. The region’s natural attributes include snowfields, lakes, beaches and wilderness and provide a great outdoor lifestyle and range of recreational pursuits in our own backyard. Our most significant attraction, drawing visitors all year round, is the Gippsland Lakes, Australia’s largest inland water system.
The City of Bairnsdale has a current approximate population of 13,000 and is the ‘commercial hub’ of East Gippsland. Bairnsdale is considered the ‘gateway’ to the snowfields, lakes, sea and forests of East Gippsland with a variety of shops, dining establishments, sport, culture, historical and arts experiences on offer.
An array of smaller towns located in the outlying areas enable a range of residential choices offering affordable property prices and clean and healthy living. Towns such as Paynesville, Nicholson, Metung, Lindenow and Lakes Entrance are all popular locations with waterways on your backdoor step!
East Gippsland has a resilient and thriving local economy offering a stable workforce, low unemployment, a strong industry training sector and job opportunities across a range of sectors and professions. The largest industries for employment are retail trade; health and community services; agriculture, fishing and forestry; education; manufacturing and hospitality and tourism.
A number of educational facilities exist in the region with a choice of state, catholic, private and specialist primary and secondary schools providing excellent education. Post secondary education is offered via the TAFE sector, tertiary courses and a range of specialist education and training facilities linked to industry and trades training.
Whether you are looking for a greater work/life balance, planning a sea or tree change, or seeking a clean, healthy and safe environment in which to raise your family, East Gippsland has a town or village to suit you!
