Today marks the beginning of an exciting new initiative at BRHS – the trial of a Patient Discharge Lounge! This is an important step in improving how we support patients during the final stages of their hospital stay.
Located temporarily in Rotamah Ward, the lounge features three comfortable chairs and is designed for patients who are medically ready for discharge but are waiting on final steps such as prescriptions, transport, or paperwork. It also offers a comfortable and relaxed environment, with access to tea, coffee, and newspapers
– think of it as a little like waiting in an airport terminal, but without the flight delays.
This space helps ensure that patients are not occupying ward beds longer than necessary, allowing those beds to be available for the patients who need them most. The discharge lounge also supports smoother patient movement throughout the hospital, helping to reduce wait times in areas such as the Emergency Department and avoid delays for incoming patients.
The lounge will operate Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, though these hours may change as the trial progresses.
A special thank you to Rotamah Nurse Unit Manager Michelle Wealands, who was on site bright and early today to assist with setup and coordination.
