The BRHS Allied Health team provides supplementary health care services to the East Gippsland community for both inpatients and outpatients.

Our services are available to all community members and are accessible by GP referral or self-referral in some cases.

If you would like to make an appointment or have a query, please contact Central Intake on 5150 3468.

Our range of services includes:

Dietetics

Dietitians are qualified to advise individuals and groups on nutrition related matters. They have a vital role in assessing individual nutritional requirements and have clinical training to modify diets to treat conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, cancers, gastro-intestinal diseases, food allergies and intolerances and overweight and obesity.

The BRHS Dietetics Department is also involved in the training of Dietetics students through the provision of clinical placement and supervision.

Equipment Services

BRHS has an extensive range of equipment available for hire. You may need this equipment when you leave hospital to maintain your independence or to keep you safe at home.

Equipment includes over-toilet frames, shower stools, bed sticks, bedside commodes, wheeled walkers, walking frames, crutches, taxi commodes, TENS machines and wheelchairs.

Aboriginal Hospital Liaison

The Koori Hospital Liaison Officer (KHLO) is available to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families to make informed decisions concerning their treatment, rehabilitation and discharge from hospital.

The KHLO is able to provide information regarding community services available to patients upon discharge. An aim of the program is to facilitate cross-cultural awareness and improve Koori Health outcomes.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists provide advice, support and assessment services designed to assist recovery from disabilities, disease or injury. Interventions aim to maximise independence within the home and community.

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapy department provides a broad range of services tailored to meet the needs of our community.

Our physios support patients’ recovery during their stay in hospital as well as providing services to outpatients (those not staying in the hospital).

Podiatry

Our Podiatry service provides assessment, education and treatment of disorders. Referral from a GP is essential with priority being given to patients who are at risk of developing foot infection, ulceration and/or tissue breakdown. Consultation fees apply.

Social Work

BRHS Social Workers provide counselling, support, information, advocacy, and referrals for patients and their families as they adjust to hospital, cope with changed health needs and determine the most appropriate care to meet their needs.

We offer services to inpatients, outpatients and, where appropriate, their family members.

Speech Pathology

Speech Pathologists identify, assess, diagnose and treat people presenting with speech, language, voice, fluency, hearing and swallowing difficulties. Our Speech Pathologists provide a regional service to other hospitals, community health centres, nursing homes and to people with disabilities and special needs.

Lymphoedema Clinic

Offered as joint service by Allied Health and Community Health Nursing, our Lymphoedema Clinic assists community members living with Lymphoedema as a result of a range of reasons including after surgery, radiotherapy or injury where lymph nodes are removed or damaged.  Our clinic aims to reduces the risk of pain, recurrent infection, reduced mobility and impaired function.

BRHS Allied Health Services received funding from the Commonwealth and Victorian governments.
