DIALYSIS

The BRHS Dialysis Unit provides state of the art dialysis services in a friendly and supportive environment.

About us

Our new Dialysis Unit was officially opened on 18 May 2011. It was built with generous support from the community, including fundraising of more than $1 million from the BRHS Pelicans Auxiliary.

We offer dialysis services for 36 patients in 9 chairs. It assists local and visiting people requiring dialysis to maintain quality of life in a friendly, state-of-the-art environment. We are open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 9pm, with 2 sessions per day. Phone (03) 5150 3425.

Our team

Our highly experienced nursing staff take great pride in ensuring your needs are met. If you have any questions regarding your treatment, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our team.

Visiting nephrologists

Our visiting nephrologists each month are Dr Mardiana Lee from Austin Health and Dr Tim Coughlan from Latrobe Regional Hospital and Monash Medical Centre.

Getting started

We will do our best to give you a session at your preferred time. We appreciate your understanding if that time is not available. When arriving for your treatment, please remain in the waiting room until you are called into the unit unless you are unwell.

Transport

It is up to you to arrange transport to your dialysis sessions and any other medical travel outside the region (including to Melbourne). We can help you find the appropriate service for your needs and will offer you their contact details. Please ask about our volunteer transport services. If you are travelling more than 100km for your treatment/appointments, you may be entitled to reimbursement through the Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme.

Holidays

If you are interested in booking holidays, we will help you arrange dialysis at the closest possible unit to your destination. Kidney Health Australia also operates Big Red Kidney Buses, with full dialysis services, in a range of locations in Victoria and other states.

Visiting patients

We welcome visitors to our region who need dialysis. Please contact us before you visit to ensure we can offer you a suitable session time.

Allied Health services

Allied Health Services are available and include dietitian, Koori liaison officer, physiotherapist, podiatrist, social worker and speech pathologist. Phone Allied Health on (03) 5150 3388 or speak to a nurse for more information.

Parking

There is dedicated parking for dialysis/oncology patients in the car park off McKean Street. You can park your car in the allocated bays if you drive yourself, but if your partner or carer is driving you in, please use the drop-off bay. The driver must then park in the public area.

More information

We recommend that patients seek information on kidney issues from Australian sources such as the Kidney Health Australia website.
