Our innovation
The team at Maddocks Gardens won the award for Excellence in Public Sector Aged Care at the 2022 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards for its work with residents who have dementia, using an interactive program they developed to improve residents’ sensory engagement. See it in action in this video:
The program, known as Building Sensory Bridges in Dementia Care, involves residents in our Sutherland Lodge wing. It uses a projection unit and specialised software that projects moving images onto any surface. Residents use anything from pool noodles to balls and fly swatters to interact with the images, which change form once “touched”.
The program has helped people with memory loss improve cognition, motor skills and connections with each other and our staff.

Residential In Reach
Our In Reach service is a valuable inclusion we provide if a resident becomes unwell and their doctor is unavailable.
A specialist nurse will come from the hospital to make a clinical assessment and liaise with the resident’s doctor and the staff at Maddocks Gardens to decide which the best location to provide ongoing care.
Sometimes, the best option for our resident is not to go to hospital but to be treated with specialist care delivery by this team in familiar surroundings.
