Childbirth Education Goes Online to Provide Familiar Support in an Unfamiliar Time

Though the times have changed, Susie Cameron and the BRHS Maternity team are still providing education and support to expectant Mums.

Though the strict social distancing rules of today may slow things down in maternity wards nine months from now, at BRHS our Midwifery and Maternity services are just as busy as ever, and we are well-prepared to keep serving our soon-to-be Mums and new families in the community.

Thanks to good technology and great staff we are still able to stay in touch with our maternity clients and provide the same level of care and education.

Childbirth Classes

In line with state health guidelines, we have moved our Childbirth classes to an online platform – Zoom videoconferencing.

Our Maternity staff have been contacting all our expectant Mums to schedule new appointments and make sure they can access the videoconferencing software, which works on almost any computer, tablet or smartphone.

We’re providing additional maternity education materials via email, and even producing a short, virtual tour of the Maternity ward to familiarise Mums with the surroundings, and staff.

Antenatal Clinic

Antenatal visits are running as usual. Booking-In appointments are being done via phone or Zoom, with a short face-to-face visit at the CBD Clinic if needed.

Need to Speak with a Midwife at the Hospital?

Pregnant women that have any concerns and need to speak with a BRHS Midwife must not come to the hospital without first calling. Call 5150 3455 to speak with Midwife at the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In an emergency, dial 000.

Visiting + Partners

For maternity services, visitors are restricted to the partner only (or equivalent support person) during the maternity admission. No other family is permitted to visit.

Only one partner will be allowed to attend Ultrasound appointments with the mother.

The decision to change how we deliver these services was not made lightly. It reflects our commitment to protecting the health and wellbeing of all our patients and staff at this unprecedented time.

If you have any questions about our Maternity services during this time, please call our CBD Campus at 5150 3300.
