People who live in the 3909 and 3887 postcodes, which includes Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers and Nowa Nowa, will now be able to access after hours medical services via phone or digital app.
The aim of the new after hours service is to make sure people can get medical support even if they have distance or accessibility issues.
The service is a pilot project of Gippsland Primary Health Network, supported by Gippsland Lakes Complete Health.
The virtual solution uses state-of-the art video conferencing technology to connect general practitioners, with eligible patients via safe, high-quality, telehealth consultations.
Patients can access virtual consultations by simply downloading the HealthNow App or calling the 1800 931 162 number, booking a virtual consultation and then waiting to receive a call from a clinician via video or phone.

Regardless of where the patient is based, general practitioners can conduct healthcare consultations with patients simply via video or phone at a convenient time and location.
Research has shown that after hours emergency department presentations are high in Gippsland compared to the Victorian average.
This new service will provide another treatment option for people who perhaps don’t need to go to the Bairnsdale hospital’s emergency department.
Gippsland PHN Chief Executive Officer, Amanda Proposch, said there were significant challenges across the region with the provision of after-hours primary care services in rural areas.
“We are constantly looking at how we can increase access to services for our community,” Ms Proposch said. “This pilot project means residents can connect with a general practitioner from the comfort of their homes and it will reduce the significant after hours on-call burden placed on the general practices.”
“Enabling access to virtual consultations via an after hours service is a positive step to increase access to remote communities in Gippsland.”
The service will be available between 6 pm – 8 am during weekdays, after 12 pm on Saturdays and all day on Sundays and public holidays for residents in areas with postcodes 3909 and 3887, including Lakes Entrance and Lake Tyers.
