The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced last week that hospitals would gradually resume Category 2 and some Category 3 elective surgeries that were suspended earlier this month to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
If you are waiting for a procedure at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, you do not need to do anything. We will contact you when your surgery has been rescheduled.
DHHS has advised that surgeries that will be allowed to resume include post-cancer reconstruction procedures, eye procedures and cataracts, endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures, some dental procedures, joint replacements including knee, hip and shoulder and screening programs for cancer and other diseases. It also includes all procedures for children under the age of 18.
It is important to note that only some of these permitted surgeries are provided by BRHS.
BRHS is currently working through the list of people awaiting surgeries to prioritise those deemed most urgent.
We appreciate this is a difficult time and regret that the COVID-19 situation is affecting our services in this way. Your support and understanding during this challenging period is appreciated.
If your condition deteriorates please contact your GP or referring doctor if there are any changes in your condition, if you’d like advice about pain management, or you require other support during this time.
BRHS patients do not need to do anything at this time, but if you have a question about your procedure you can contact Surgical Services Access Manager Jennifer Bugbird on (03) 5150 3408.
