DISABILITY LIAISON OFFICERs

Assisting people with disabilities to access health services.

Tom Aberdeen (left) and Mark Gaffey are Bairnsdale Regional Health Service’s Disability Liaison Officers.

The DLO program supports inclusive, equitable and safe access to health care for people with disability.

If you or a person you care for are having difficulties accessing health care services, please phone 5150 3384 or email disability.liaison@brhs.com.au.

Our Disability Liaison Officers can help with information and support for:

  • barriers to accessing health services they need, including preventative health care
  • coordinating reasonable adjustments such as:
    • accessible information
    • physical navigation and service navigation
    • disability-specific advice to staff, and
    • liaising with the NDIS, its partners and other agencies
  • influencing and advocating for systemic change
  • identifying gaps in acute/hospital services.
  • providing broader staff education, to build a disability-confident workforce
  • partnering with people with disability, health services, departments and the community to co-design and deliver service improvements, and
  • access to COVID-19 and other vaccination services.
